Even as Hurricane Milton seems to be making way for Florida, many local people and organizations are working to help get needed supplies to people in the path of Hurricane Helene’s destruction.

Fort Payne Masonic Lodge 437 collected water and have made at least one delivery so far. As Scotty Vaughn related in a Facebook message, the lodge has teamed up with Kendron Masonic Lodge to deliver water collected here to the North Carolina lodge for distribution to those who need it.

Vaughn said the lodge will continue to work with the Kendron lodge to help get needed supplies to those affected by the hurricane.

Town officials in Ider, Ider Fire Department and Ider Police Department teamed up

with Hammond’s Trucking to send needed emergency supplies to areas ravaged by

Hurricane Helene.

“Our goal is to send a fully loaded truck. Any help would be greatly appreciated,” Ider Fire

Department’s Facebook post read.

Other organizations pitched in to help with that effort. Fort Payne Pediatrics posted Ider’s list of requested items on its Facebook page and served as a collection point, then delivered items to the Ider Town Hall.

St. Joseph’s on-the-Mountain Episcopal Church is collecting items through 3 p.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 9) for another delivery to North Carolina. They also accept monetary donations to be used to buy items that are not donated. See St. Joseph’s Facebook page for Venmo information.

Items requested include: 20# tanks of propane, full or empty, must have triangular valves; diapers; adult diapers; sanitary supplies; soap, saving cream, razors, other toiletries, mop buckets, floor cleaners, cleaning products such as Pine Sol, Clorox Clean-up, etc.; dish soap, bundles of bar towels or other cleaning cloths, new/like new blankets, new/like new coats, totes to pack things in; no used household goods or anything breakable.
